Funny that the NFL needs to formulate a specific policy for Twitter. The NFL already has a policy barring the use of cell phones, computers, PDAs and other similar devices by players during games in the coaches box or in the locker room. This ban starts at pregame warm-ups and goes till the end of the game and includes halftime (unlike the NBA).
So, not sure how the heck they are going to send a Tweet with this policy already in place. But, I guess the NFL is like everyone else…they just want to talk about Twitter.
Of course the ban and fines will only incent players to do it more so they get notoriety. Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson’s best playing days are behind him and he’s adamant he will be Twittering come the season. So far the fines have been in the $1000-$1500 range – expect the new policy from the League Office to have a litte more “bite” to it. It will most likely not only cover off Twitter but other social media as well. What ever happened to just playing the game?
